Life updates and cool stuff

Oh goodness!

I have not been updating things as much as I would have liked to.

Kid is doing great! He is just as sassy as imagined, loved heavy metal, and is somehow 2 years old.

Things I am making!

As for projects, I started kitbashing toy animals to make monsters for my space themed adventures I am running with a small group of players based on Spelljammer. The monsters are unique creatures the organization the party is working for are gathering, making copies for research purposes, and returning the originals to the wild. I have photos and videos about the monsters across my various social media accounts. I will be putting the campaign primer I built for the Spelljammer group on my Patreon at some point. I have been trying out mold making using silicone and casting resin with varied results. My first molds did have a few bubbles and I learned many things about the process in a short amount of time.

I am still working on the Power Rangers commission. It is taking awhile to paint the entire kickstarter for the Power Rangers Heroes of the Grid game. It is the constant humming background in my mind space… constant.

Terrain stuff has been in stasis. I made a nice set of iron rich mountain slabs to use for my games and ended up displaying artwork on a few of them at a gallery. A few of my medium sized monsters sold as well as the terrain they were on, which is weird, but also cool. I cut down about three different thickness 8ft by 4ft insulation boards and started making things out of them but have not finished any of them, they are all over out basement. I started some tiles as Proxxon wire tool practice. They just need the edges painted and possibly a different dry brush on the back. I started a large scale 2ft by 4ft city board with Lemax train streets glued down on foam board and the wood board itself. It was based on a Geek Gaming Scenics video he did with wallpaper that I tried to emulate with the train vinyl with mixed results.

Competitions?

I made a Ghost Mimic Pirate Ship for a miniature building contest called Smashbash and painted up my Astral Sphinx for Monster Mayhem. While Smashbash has not been posted as of this posting I did not place in Monster Mayhem. Both were amazing experiences and I will have to just make more awesome things. I did also make a slew of shields for the Simpson Shield Slam, most of those are what I am making molds of for practice.

I made Robgoblins.

In college I made clay mice because even though I was graduating with an art degree I knew in my heart I would end up with some non art based job and could even end up as a ratcatcher, which was the childhood dream until I realized you had to kill the rats. I got alarmingly good at making mice in under a minute. When I was teaching clay classes and doing demos I started making strange little slugs, this was more of a way to use up excess clay left over from different things and suddenly our studio was full of tiny slugs of clay. While working at an art store we had someone break open a thing of sculpey and me being me, I ended up making an tiny little guy. The first batch I was calling Little Guys, then Troblins, then had a late night moment of clarity, they are Robgoblins. They are also advertising. I am Rob, and I make Goblins. I was handing these out at one of our gaming conventions this last year to friends and cool people. There are now just about 400 Robgoblins that I made and more to come. The Robgoblins do feel like they are the cumulation both the mice and slugs, which makes me feel they have oddly gone full circle.

Kitbashing, monster branding, and chaos have been overtaking many of the more book based things I used to work on but more neat things are on the way.
